Building Community: Highlights from Empowerment Squared’s 2025 Fair and Open House

On August 8, 2025, Empowerment Squared welcomed 159 participants and their families to our East End location for our first-ever Summer Fair and Open House. The day was filled with laughter, music, and a strong sense of community as children, parents, volunteers, and local partners came together to celebrate, connect, and learn.

The event featured activities for all ages, all offered free of charge. In the KidZone, children enjoyed bounce castles, face painting, and balloon artistry with twisty balloons generously donated and performed by Whimsy and Mirth, creating magical moments of joy and creativity.

In the Food Zone, families shared complimentary meals, including a generous donation of 250 vegetarian samosas from Himalya Restaurant, creating moments of connection over delicious food.

The Styling Zone, supported by Trims Barbershop and Kairos Cuts, provided free haircuts and personal styling—removing barriers for families and ensuring everyone could participate with confidence. Meanwhile, Draga Vision Care shared important information on eye care and resources available for children and youth under 19 to access comprehensive eye exams.

Community partners played a vital role in the day’s success. Hillfield Strathallan College donated a 44-passenger bus and driver to bring participants safely to and from the event. We were also grateful to welcome the Hamilton Police Services Community Team, whose visit delighted participants, especially children who enjoyed trying the sirens and meeting new recruits.

Throughout the day, families also had opportunities to connect with local service providers and entrepreneurs offering resources, mentorship, and inspiration.

The Fair and Open House was more than just a celebration, it was a demonstration of what’s possible when a community comes together. Parents found resources to support their children by registering for Empowerment Squared Fall programming on site, while children discovered new activities and families strengthened their community connections.

We are deeply grateful to the Empowerment Squared team, volunteers, donors, and community partners whose generosity and dedication made this event possible.

The success of the 2025 Fair and Open House is only the beginning. We are excited to make this an annual tradition that celebrates community strength and creates opportunities for families year after year.
