Friends of Empowerment Squared,

As we continue to work together through the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we want to keep you updated with the steps we are taking to support our families, respond to this crisis, and continue to achieve our mission.

We have reached out to all of our youth and families to check in on their health and wellbeing. Our first priority has been helping them ensure that their basic needs are met, which we are doing by providing gift cards and other supports for their physical, social, emotional, and mental needs. They have been tremendously appreciative of the outreach. During this time of isolation, many people feel alone. Reach out to your family and friends through calls, messages, and video chats – it makes a big difference!

Administratively, we have equipped our entire team to work effectively remotely, with shared drives and necessary equipment and software. Our office will remain closed and all in person programs are paused until further notice.

We are continuing to work responsively and proactively to help our youth with their academic pursuits. We are aligning our efforts with the content now being disseminated by the school boards. We have completed surveys of our program participants and their households and are working to get tablets and devices and other necessary technology for online learning to those who need it. We are recreating our learning supports and sense of community through phone calls, online activities, webinars and video sessions. Our young leaders are responding positively and making the best of this challenging situation to learn new life skills and continue their schooling. We will be reaching out to our academic mentors to engage them in this new learning context.

As always, we appreciate your ongoing support of Empowerment Squared. If you would like to make a contribution to help further our response and community outreach during this time, please contact Lisa-Marie Smith at l.smith@empowermentsquared.org
