ChallengEd.
ChallengEd. offers those who are interested in the community they live in to visit a series of underprivileged areas such as inner-city neighbourhoods, native reserves and shelters. This program promotes experiential learning and aims to increase self-reflection and community-mindedness. It offers youth a first-hand look at what other individuals their own age in Hamilton go through and allows visiting youth to realize how fortunate they are. The program hopes to allow youth to think critically and respond to the issues that others in the community face.
While much of this project is excursion-based, it will be regimented with relevant learning exercises and problem-solving activities. Upon completion of the excursion, participants will be encouraged to put into practice what they have learned by either hosting information sessions, awareness campaigns, or other creative projects to address the issues experienced.
