Summer Programs (2020)

Online Programs

Join us this summer as we offer both educational and sports and recreational programming for youth between the ages of 4 and 13.  We will be exploring art around the world through photography, printmaking, and sculpture, participating in meaningful physical activities for the development of healthy lifestyles and developing reading strategies with students who are struggling with their learning skills, work habits and language.

All programs will be offered online through the Zoom platform and registration is mandatory.

E-Movement

A sports and recreation program promoting healthy lifestyles and skill building through meaningful physical activity. 


Program Schedule
July 20, 2020 – August 20, 2020

Location
Online (Zoom details to be shared once participant is registered)

Age of participants
5 to 8 – every Tuesday from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm and
9 to 13 – every Thursday from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm

Cost
FREE

On the days of the program, participants must come prepared wearing appropriate clothing.

 

Art

Explore art around the world through photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Students will learn to apply the creative process to produce a variety of two- and three-dimensional art works, using elements, principles, and techniques of visual arts to communicate feelings, ideas, and understandings.

5 to 7 – every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm and
8 to 12 – every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2:45 pm to 3:45 pm

Cost
FREE

On the days of the program, participants must come prepared with the materials provided by Empowerment Squared.

 

Summer Literacy

The Literacy Program provides children from grades junior kindergarten to grade 5 with the opportunity to develop reading strategies including: phonemic awareness, levelled reading, shared reading and targeted interactive writing exercises.  This program is not suited for special education student.

This program is for participants who are struggling with their learning skills, work habits and language.  For example, receiving satisfactory or needs improvement in learning skills or “C’s” or “D’s” in language on their report cards.

Age of participants
4 to 11 – every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm
*participant must have completed at least Junior Kindergarten

On the days of the program, participants must come prepared with the materials provided by Empowerment Squared.

 

Homework Circle (High School Summer)

Working with volunteers, high school students can receive help with completing their homework and assignments during summer school.

July 1, 2020 – July 29, 2020

Age of participants
13 to 18 – every Wednesday from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Cost
FREE

On the days of the program, participants must come prepared with their homework and assignments.

 

Participant Registration

All programs will be offered online through the Zoom platform and registration is mandatory for each participant.

Volunteer 

All programs will be offered online through the Zoom platform and both returning and new volunteers must complete an application.  Training will be provided prior to the start of the program (summer literacy training is over three days) and materials for the art and summer literacy programs will be provided.
