Sports and Recreation

Many youth in Hamilton cannot access sports and recreation activities due to high financial costs and other barriers such as the lack of affordable and conducive facilities. The average cost for a youth to fully participate in a recreational league in Hamilton is around $1500 annually. Currently, Empowerment Squared serves approximately 250 youth through the sports and recreation program year round.

The Sports and Recreation program serves as an incredible tool for engaging youth through soccer. Originally started as United FC in 2007 to bring together a love for sports and a constructive after-school activity for a diverse group of youth, the program continues to serve as an incredible gateway into our academic mentorship program like the School Readiness and Day on Campus programs.

During the fall, winter and spring seasons, the team conduct open practices where team building skills, coaching and drills are implemented. Excluding games, practices are open to all youth under the age of 20 and volunteer coaches and mentors are always welcome.
