Six months later

Within 4 days of the earthquake in Haiti, over $150 million was raised. In fact, that was just the beginning of the hundreds of millions to be raised around the world to restore a sense of dignity to the people of Haiti. Everyone knew that no amount of money could account for the loss of lives during the quake; rather people were hopeful that the world would finally come to the aid of Haiti like never before. Indeed, the world responded in an unprecedented manner. Even developing countries were willing to forget about their plights for a moment and do something to help the Haitian people. Read more…

Fancy dinners and false promises

Hamilton, ON—Last week the most powerful politicians in the world assembled in Huntsville and Toronto for the G8 and G20 summits. Although these two groups stand as the definition of global governance and new world order, the attitude employed by the summits’ leaders and delegates was more fitting of a bossy parent. In recent years, they have assumed to understand the problems of the developing world and how best to solve them and this weekend was no exception. But when an attitude of such superiority and naivety is displayed in such grandeur as it was at the summits, it’s hard to keep turning a blind eye. Read more…

Impossible is nothing

Okay, so I clearly haven’t been doing so well at writing a blog post each week. However, there’s been a lot going on here and hopefully you’ll forgive me. Please? I promise I’m not just saying that. We actually have been really busy with a bunch of exciting new developments. Intern Highlight Profile: Melissa Phachanhla

Hamilton, ON—As one of our new Development Assistants, Melissa’s responsibilities include organizing fundraisers, networking with prospective donors, scheduling public engagements and increasing organization membership. Melissa is going into her third year of the Bachelor of Health Sciences Honours program at McMaster University.  Originally from Cambridge, Ontario she currently lives in Hamilton because of all the personal and professional opportunities the city provides.  She said the “all you can eat sushi” joints were definitely a bonus as well.
