The Hamilton Spectator: ‘Dream’ trip derailed

Hamilton, ON - Eight members of a Hamilton soccer team of refugees were denied the trip of a lifetime yesterday after Air India officials said they lacked all necessary documents.

Now, United FC is scrambling to get travel visas and raise $10,000 for new flights by Tuesday.

The last minute snag came after months of fundraising and taking out a loan for more than $40,000 to send 18 players and two coaches to London, England, to compete in a youth soccer tournament. Read more…

United FC players denied flight to England by Air India

Toronto, ON—United FC was set to fly out of Pearson International Airport yesterday evening on their way to the Arsenal International Youth Tournament in England. However, due to some document confusion at the airport and a misunderstanding by Air India staff, eight of the players were denied access onto the flight. Read more…

United FC wins exhibition match

Hamilton, ON—The game started a little shaky for United FC. It was the first competitive game they had played since January. But it took no more than 15 minutes for their nerves to die down, and for them to settle into the game. United FC showed their fans the kind of game they could play and handily defeated Ancaster SC 4-2 in an exhibition match aimed at helping the team get ready for England. Read more…

United FC has accepted an invitation to participate in the Arsenal International Youth Tournament in England this August and Empowerment Squared wants to make sure they have what they need to represent Canada in the best way possible.
